About Pilates

Created in the early 1900s by Joseph Pilates, the low-impact exercises coordinate movement and breath to work the smaller and deeper stabilizing muscles of the body as much as the larger, visible muscles you’re familiar with. With Pilates, you align your body’s overall structure and support your joints. The exercises may look simple, but are in fact challenging and incredibly effective when done correctly.

The Contrology method

Originally called “Contrology,” the Pilates method is designed to improve ease of movement and increase quality of life. And Pilates is for everybody – human beings of any gender, age, background, shape, and fitness level can benefit.

Advantages of Pilates

A consistent Pilates practice balances strength with mobility and flexibility. It helps you move and breathe through your day with more freedom and power – and less pain. Read on for some of the proven advantages.

1. Improve posture: Pilates focuses on full-body alignment, ideal range of motion at your joints, and a balance of all opposing muscles.

2. Decrease back pain: Pilates targets your deeper abdominal muscles and your pelvic floor. These muscles protect and stabilize your back.

3. Improve flexibility & mobility: In Pilates, you aim for controlled movements and smooth transitions between them. Most Pilates exercises are a combination of strengthening and stretching.

4. Boost energy & mood: Low-impact by design, the exercises rarely leave you feeling tired. Instead, you get a burst of energy. And Pilates is a lot of fun! Where else can you “roll like a ball”, or become a “monkey” or “seal”? The most beneficial workout is one you enjoy doing — because then you’ll stick with it!

“When all your muscles are properly developed, you will, as a matter of course, perform your work with minimum effort and maximum pleasure.”
